Welcome To Laureus Foundation USA

The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA is an independent public charity and 501(c)3 organization established in 2003 that funds and promotes the use of sport as a tool for social change.

Originally founded in 2000 by DaimlerChrysler and Richemont and supported by its Founding Partners Mercedes-Benz and IWC Schaffhausen, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation celebrates the universal power of sport to bring people together as a force for good and uses the passion that sport inspires to effect social change across the globe. Its work in the USA focuses on helping young people overcome challenging social issues including gang violence, drug abuse, homelessness, and obesity.

The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA is part of a global movement to help needy children through the positive power of sport. The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation supports 47 sport for good projects worldwide including 4 in the USA. It improves the lives of hundreds of thousands of children through a global foundation and a growing network of eight subsidiary National Foundations in Argentina, France, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and the United States

The Laureus World Sports Academy is an unprecedented collection of 45 of the world’s most legendary athletes from disciplines as diverse as football, golf, track and field, skateboarding, swimming, tennis and motor racing. Members include Edwin Moses, Marcus Allen, Tony Hawk, Dan Marino, John McEnroe, Nadia Comaneci, Michael Johnson, Monica Seles and Martina Navratilova – all of whom act as global ambassadors and guardians of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, volunteering their time to visit projects in order to draw attention to the problems afflicting society. During these visits, project participants come face to face with sporting heroes, inspiring them to push their limits and overcome their personal challenges.

Each year the Laureus World Sports Awards honors sporting excellence at a globally televised celebration that is also a showcase for the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and the “spirit of sport.”

Current US Projects

Camp Interactive Inc. introduces the creative power of technology with the inspiration of the outdoors to under-privileged inner city youth. Founded in 2001 by long-time Fisher Island resident, Arthur J. Halleran, Jr., and Jake Blair, CampInteractive provides year-round adventure and technology programs for at-risk teens. Since its inception, it has served over 700 students and doubled the size of its year-round programs. CampInteractive greatly acknowledges the generous support from The Laureus Sports for Good Foundation USA and our newest national partner Camper & Nicholsons International, a Rodriguez Group Company. Their support has enabled us to expand our ability to help fulfill the dreams of underprivileged youth in New York and Florida.

Fight Back! teaches the young people of the South Bronx to avoid the negative influences of gangs and drugs through the mastering of Jiu Jitsu. Every day, participants from 4-18 years of age come to the Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center after school to get help with their homework and then train with the guidance of skilled adults. Each week the young people also get a chance to go to local shelters to teach their skills to women who have been victims of domestic violence.

I Challenge Myself combines cycling and other sports with youth-led community health projects as a means of increasing self-esteem, promoting healthy lifestyles and providing authentic opportunities for youth to gain critical-thinking and organizing skills. The Challenge Prep program consists of safety and general fitness training, group cycling techniques and nutrition workshops to, ultimately, prepare youth to cycle 100 miles in one day. At the same time, the Community Health Check program prepares youth to serve as “health ambassadors” who will raise awareness on a health issue affecting their community.

Midnight Basketball League (in Richmond, VA) gets young people off the streets and on to the basketball court in Richmond, Virginia, between 10pm-2am. The program requires that all players are involved in either GED or other training courses offered by the league.
